The Flinders Ranges is the largest mountain range in South Australia and stretches over 430 km. It starts from Port Pirie all the way to Lake Callabonna. Its highest point is St Mary peak 1,171 m. Its most characteristic landmark is Wilpena Pound/Ikara and is shaped like an amphitheatre with tourist accommodation and hotel. From here there are many walking tracks and roads that lead through the park in several directions. It gets hot in the summer so best to explore in the cooler months.
